When your try to push the same bullet in the same handgun at those 2400 velocities with Bulleye or Unique you will hit the pressure red line before you get there. 5 Universal with a 158 LSWC seems to give me the best overall accuracy at basic 38 spl levels. For a solid or DEWC, the charge does need to be adjusted upward. ANY cast bullet load will be more dirty than a jacketed load due to the bullet lube, and the very nature of lead. I am seeing a lot of Bullseye and Unique mentioned, followed by other more "modern"powders. These are the powders that performed the best in order: WST (Consistently the best with all bullets). Used Blue Dot and Power Pistol for HV loads (flame thower effect, will scare away bad guys!! I have had very good results with these powders. 2400 is excellent for heavy. The powder mass and the mass of the gases the powder creates is accelerated to a much higher velocity than the bullet mass, so this contributes more per grain of mass to the total recoil energy. 38 special and 357 mag reloading. I'm looking to start reloading 357 magnum as well, and was wondering if anyone knows of a good powder that can produce a decent target load in all three. The long case with some powders especially slower pistol powders I don't think ignites well with most of the power up next to the bullet? 1 grandson helped me shoot them! Yep, what many others have said. Meantime I'll just keep shooting the cheap stuff, as it's bulkier and and more accurate:).
