They met the first week of college and they promised to be friends forever. While this is adult and not YA I do want to compare the characters to those from the book People Like Us by Dana Mele. I am so glad I got myself a copy of this and will absolutely be recommending this one to anyone who has not yet read it. The thing that really sets this whole story apart is the twisty story line. They were always in the public eye, and they had inseparable bonds. Quick forward a decade. My only struggle was with the first few chapters as we are getting to know the characters.
It doesn't necessarily need to, though. The explanation for this was backstory about Jessica's father going to Harvard and never fulfilling his potential, which made her have to try to fulfill his dreams. To say I had no idea who the actual killer was would be a complete understatement! In what world would they gravitate toward a football player? The story moves very slowly, but does contain lots of twists and turns. At first we thought that she was annoying, but decided, no, she was completely insufferable. Jessica loved her time at Duquette University, until she didn't. It's not that there's too many characters per se. However, one of them didn't make it. That feeling almost never happens these days. The cops couldn't find enough evidence to prove he killed her, so charges were eventually dropped.
