It is something I would smoke on occasion I wish to have something entirely different. For some, this is a negative. A good tobacco, definitely top quality, but not ambrosia (food of the gods). Pipe Used: Savinelli dry system #2622. I found it to be very singular in its taste and aroma. It's a full-on, full meal face-off when Guy Fieri gives the chefs 45 minutes to make three courses in each round. This is just a very strong blend with no subtle tastes or palate textures. I looked through some old notes and discovered that the only time I ever noticed that horrible taste was on a very hot and humid day in Queensland Australia. But I don't consider this an overdoing of flavours. I don't know if this is why the taste was so different but the bulk I would have called an English blend, the tin I would classify as a Balkan since for some reason I could taste the Orientals much more. If anything, i may even like this one a little better, but they are both great tobaccos. I've enjoyed reading the reviews here and found them helpful as I find out what works for me. I find myself having to try to like this flake and to me if I have to try to like a tobacco, it's just not worth it. The additional thing Penzance brings to the table is being pressed into flake, allowing a unique marriage of the tobaccos rendering an earthiness and smoothness second to none. It is a damn fine smoke that delivers what it should - a long, cool, creamy, smoky, nougatty, Latakia/Oriental smoking experience. Like others have said, the tobacco itself is superb quality and is in a crumble flake that easily fills your pipe. This is indeed one of the best tobaccos I have smoked to date. The orientals dont strike me as so forward as some others seem to taste, to me it's pretty consistent with most english mixtures in oriental to lat ratio. I can't really say much more than that with any kind of intellectual honesty after three bowls, but I can't see ever calling this anything less than excellent. I was expecting some paradigm altering tobacco, an end all be all, everything pipe smoking can and should be. Definitely separates the men from the boys. That extra dose of Crackotine (tm) that they heap on at the end? Oh Oriental component is very evident and top I want some damn Virginia flavor in here.
