Good morning guys, recently I have changed my fuel sending units, and ever since I've replaced them I have had problem with losing fuel pressure while the car sits. I bought new upper and lower control arms, the trailing arm bushings, and the compensator arms. You have to press the gas pedal down further than usual to get the car moving. If by a chance it wasn't put back together correctly it still runs and drives fine once it's on. However it drops 10 psi to 40psi after the engine is off for three hours. The fuel pressure regulator doesn't fail very often, but it is still worth checking to see if it might be causing your problem. If i go and it sits 10 minutes or less, it fires back up in like a half a crank. It's also possible that there are micro leaks within the connections where the fuel line meets the pump. An air leak will allow the fuel to drain out of the fuel line just like holding your finger over a drink straw and removing the straw from the cup. So what would cause the fuel pressure to drop while sitting. I did notice a slight stumble tonight when moving into heavy throttle. However, can a fuel pump go bad if your vehicle has been sitting too long? I suppose I could have a pinhole leak but I can't imagine it leaking where I wouldn't smell it. Sometimes it would try and catch and stumble for a second and then start. Purge should be fully closed during cranking, so I should be able to disconnect the hose and put my vacuum pump on there and see if it will hold vacuum. I have to bump the starter to get the Air Dog pumping, wait until it stops(16psi) then it takes me about three tries to get it started not long after I reinstalled a set of 75hp injectors. A bad fuel pump is probably the most common cause of low fuel pressure. Finally got sick of it and had a look at the valve itself - found all kinds of nastiness in the screens. Generally, with such a problem, you will get a P0190 code accompanying your problem. Today I went into the garage- had the problem at first start. Yes, I mean the level sensors in the tank. I have an inline fuel filter in a steel line between the Carter stock mechanical fuel pump and carb. After multiple primes I can get it up to around 50psi but when the key turns off, it drops back down to 0 psi within a few seconds. Also- the fuel pressure regulator is new. As that happens, the pump becomes less effective at moving gas into the engine. But no wastegate rattle. To confirm losing prime, you would need to install a clear fuel line so you can see the line go empty where it connects to the engine. It goes away and runs good for the most part. I carefully clamped the incoming fuel pipe from the pump using vise grips with rubber hoses over the jaws to re-run the test. If the diaphragm was torn it would be leaking into the intake manifold and I don't see that either.

Car sits longer than 3-4 days, it has to crank for up to 20 or 30 seconds before it gets any fuel and fires. I pulled the FASS off this week and the suction line between the pump and the tank was bone dry. The price of getting a fuel pump can also vary depending on the mechanic shop. If you want to replace the fuel pump on your own, this is not recommended. It is possible to fix the fuel pump without having to replace it.
I have the 1/4" Edelbrock pressed paper insulator under the carb. It took me 3 hours to clean all of that crap out. Getting your fuel pump replaced is not cheap. I know there is a check valve somewhere in the fuel system to keep this from happening. I do have a lift in my garage but I don't want to remove the subframe.
