I overall liked this novel! Why do you think the title is Wrong Place, Wrong Time? And I think that's the genius of it. And that's such an interesting premise, that every night she would revisit it. An instant classic. " How would you have reacted if you were Jen? Jen wakes up to the day before the murder. But nothing is that simple and McAllister is not here to suggest that Jen is a bad mother, only that parenting is complex and fraught. And, you know, I think there's a lot worse they could be doing. I'm not sure I would have written Wrong Place Wrong Time without the pandemic because I had so much time to really take a big swing at a complicated plot.

Gillian McAllister has done it again! Jen wakes up the next morning and wonders how this could have happened: Jen stares and stares at the door to her son's bedroom. And I am the exact same way. It explores themes of parent/child relationships, the fast pace of life and whether we actually take time to engage and enjoy our lives, trust and the power of love. I really didn't want it to be over – loved every page of it, and will be recommending it to everyone! So I'm always kind of like how's that going to work, but yours just melded right into the story, which I think is what they all should do, and probably why readers are really commenting, because they're not even really thinking there's going to be a twist, and then there is. She graduated with an English degree and now works as a lawyer in Birmingham.

I think everybody should just find what they like to read and read it. Opening sentence: Jen is glad of the clocks going back tonight. She thinks she can, but every time she falls asleep she wakes up one day before. It's been a while since a thriller has taken me on such a adventure, I loved the twists in the already unique plot and didn't see the big reveals coming. She is also the creator and co-host of the popular Honest Authors podcast. Or did you think that needed more context? And a lot of times it's not something you could have predicted, which I think is better, but it's also not out of left field, so I don't know how to explain that any better other than to say it makes perfect sense when you read it and you look back and think, oh, wow. And it's a complete turning point in the novel. She's the queen of the moral dilemma. After all, does every action a child performs not begin with their mother?

But I think, yeah, I do think those things pop up in fiction. And she's right about sort of when you play a video game with someone is the kind of intimacy there that you can't get in other ways in quite the same way. And like you say, the way, why not write a cracking plot? 15:04] Gillian: Yeah, I hear that a lot. And I think that's probably why the book is resonating so much with people is because we'd all love to do that, go back and relive some aspects of our lives, but also go back and witness the way we handled things five years ago, ten years ago, whenever it is. She's already back in time so technically the murder hasn't taken place yet. Can you stop a murder after it's already happened? How is she going to wrap this up? Todd as a two year old is not the same as Todd as a ten year old.

Thanks to this, and more, you really grow attached to Jen and the other characters, and this really helps to increase the impacts and stakes of Jen's journey. 07:32] Cindy: Well, it was one of the things I was curious about when I started reading, because I thought going back day by day by day, which is what I thought was going to happen originally, would eventually get a little repetitive and you wouldn't have something maybe super relevant or super exciting happening every single day. And I got rid of that fairly early on because I found it confusing when she was going back, like 1000 days, and then suddenly in her sleep, she was back at the picture window at night watching the murder again. There's nothing really off limits.

And in an earlier draft, she revisited the crime each night when she slept, and she got to observe the effect of the changes she had made. And I think you're exactly right. And it is sometimes the way they are getting together versus especially during the pandemic, I mean, it was a savior for him, but even now, I mean, he goes out plenty, but he also sometimes just really enjoys going upstairs and talking to his friends while he's playing the PlayStation. What were your thoughts as this unfolded?

Jen inexplicably travels back in time, in a time loop experiencing déjà vu and trying to solve the mystery of why her son would inexplicably stab someone outside their house. Does she need to sacrifice something for her son, pay more attention, meet different people? 09:41] Cindy: I would think it definitely would to kind of keep trying on different things, seeing how they worked. We also got a second POV of rookie cop Ryan who was introduced a few chapters in. For me, it's kind of like you thought this person wasn't erasing and it's actually this person, and I just made you assume. But actually, I think the reader, if you say there's something hidden in an old quarry and we're going to go there tomorrow, the reader wants to turn the page and say the quarry is and then the description and then the characters there, that's what the reader wants. And then you can't believe that you didn't get it. And it's really taken off. As a huge fan of Gillian's previous books, I knew that I was in for a clever, thought-provoking and genius ride, but I really need to congratulate her on what I can only imagine to be a very complex and complicated writing experience because as a reader I was utterly gripped. He's like, mom, that's the only way I'm actually interacting with my friends. That is what happens to Jen, devoted mother, hard-working divorce lawyer and loving wife of Kelly. And I had a privileged experience with the pandemic because I wasn't ill from it and nobody I know got seriously ill and I worked from home anyway.

She really does write a lot of different types of mysteries and thrillers. I can often look back at things I was writing at certain times of my life and see that I was preoccupied with certain events or themes just as I was wanting to leave my job as a lawyer.
