It is the largest venue on the Vineyard and, with its marvelous acoustics and beautiful setting, local groups, musical groups, individual performers, theater groups, choruses and even the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra find enthusiastic audiences. Additionally, during this same era E. P. Carpenter erected hotels in Katama, Nantucket, and Shelter Island Park. Few events speak more directly to old-fashioned summer fun than the Vineyard's annual Wind Festival, a free competition for kids and adults in friendly kite-making and kite-flying competitions, with awards given in categories like "best wind sculpture" and "highest flying. Can you hear the crickets? The summer of 2019 was a tough one for our family but we were thrilled to be together, to be on Martha's Vineyard, and to be celebrating a century and a half of this beautiful tradition.
