As always Moss's prose is an absolute pleasure to read, flowing effortlessly, with hidden depths and boundless humanity.

But don't let that deter you if you're like me and like happy endings only. It's a character study really but as with many of Moss's novels, it's closely linked to landscape- in this case, the setting is the Peak District, Nov 2020. Both Addy and Vincent experienced tragedy through the same car accident -- Addy lost her father, and Vincent's dad became paralyzed -- so when the two are assigned to be partners on a psych assignment, things are naturally pretty tense. Some personalities will inevitably find periods of isolation and containment more psychologically challenging than others, and many readers will have experienced the temptation to "bend the rules" a little as a managed risk over the course of the pandemic. He was never around her friends, and personally I think its a good thing because they were shitty IMO. Note: I read an ARC through NetGalley and passages quoted may not be in their final forms. But honestly, this one hit in a way none of her other books have for me. The most intense yet from Sarah Sutton's novel 'Can't Catch My Breath' handles some heavy topics – grief and mental health specifically, and it was good to see how Sarah's writing evolved to include those issues and subject matters.
The story is told from several perspectives. Vincent has that bad boy vibe, but it was nice to see him open up as the story progressed. This is so exceptionally well done, with so much heart and pain put in this but it still is lighthearted and wonderful. The atmosphere was so interesting and there should have been more hangouts there, but it feels more private for them. I thought the development of the romance was so wholesome, especially when he smiled for the first time ☹️ Addy is his number one protector, but I wish we could have seen him around her friends. Anyway, I loved this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a more serious and emotional (but still romantic and swoon-worthy) read!! In style and length, this audionovella is very like the author's Summerwater, which I vividly remember listening to while out for my hour of walking time during a strict lockdown last year. I don't say that to cause any feelings of pity, and I hope Sarah doesn't feel bad about it (because I think if you can make your readers cry, you're doing something right!
