All These Bodies by Kendare Blake is a compelling thriller that lingered with me long after I turned the last page.
When I first started, I was instantly reminded of Truman Capote's masterpiece, In Cold Blood. I am here for all these recent YA thrillers! It turns out, some of the victims did fight, or try to run. All These Bodies is a book that always left me thinking. No one in town fessed up to this ordeal, but does that mean the blood drinker did it? Maybe even a favorite of mine. They started in Nebraska, went through Iowa and Wisconsin, and ended in Minnesota. Besides disliking her podcast, there's not really any sort of very personal deep lobs at her when they all start tearing each other apart, and I think that that has a lot to say about that sort of type and that character, and what her energy is and how lovable she is despite all of her misgivings. Here is my review with no format and no prose or point because I'm tired asf of this book. Corpses were found entirely drained of blood from cuts to their throats or thighs, with no rhyme or reason to the identities of the victims. That just seemed like a random character choice to me. Her character is a complicated one, and increasingly so as it becomes clearer precisely what she won't say. The problem is, is that the story doesn't really know what it wants to be sometimes.
Michael told his dad and the guys at the station, but they didn't find anyone either. If you are looking for an exciting thriller with an ending that you really won't predict then you will love this book. I'm pleased to report that ALL THESE BODIES will be a great read for anyone looking to get into the Halloween mood or for those who enjoy true crime (provided they also don't mind a touch of the supernatural). For those that like a fully resolved ending and a secure 'gotcha' moment, this may be the only piece of the story that doesn't quite come through. Mysterious without being overly coy, full of details without telling you every single button on everyone's shirt, this is more Anna Dressed in Blood than Three Dark Queens, and I am HERE for it! The Anna Dressed in Blood duo is horror, The Goddess War trilogy is mythology, and Three Dark Crowns is fantasy, because the world don't move to the beat of just one drum. You never really find out why Marie and the murderer are actually killing people. I don't know if that makes sense but that's how I felt. Certainly, there's nothing more to that than the active imagination of a young girl trying to avoid blame for truly heinous acts, right? I can't believe I finished a book about an interview with a perpetrator who never really talked about the crimes. Despite this looming threat and her own fear, Marie stubbornly refuses to give up the killer's identity, claiming it to be a waste of time.
Definitely recommend! And so they want her to give up the man they are sure must have committed all those sixteen murders. Beautiful friendships and great families too. Andie's body was never recovered, and Sal was assumed by most to be guilty of abduction and murder. So this is that story. Not bad overall, though. I must admit that one thing I did find done well was the murder mystery being pretty spooky and interesting -- but at the same time, it was also really boring?? I very much enjoyed Kendare Blake's ANNA DRESSED IN BLOOD, so when I saw that she had yet another book about a teenage girl covered in blood, I had to get my hands on it. Stevens: I feel like that scene was where the movie started to go south for me a little bit because I didn't see in Bee's character, who so far in the movie is really introverted, very unsure of her status among this group of people, that she would be the person who would suddenly get a kettlebell and smash this guy's head in.
Bee is trying to get Sophie's phone to check the texts that Jordan was mentioning. Some school boys that I very much hated too. Marie and her story, of course, are central to these themes as well. As the story makes clear, it doesn't really matter what Marie says because everyone–the town, the press, the attorney–have already cemented their own beliefs about her, and nothing she says will change them. To sort of impart this really earnest, grounded well-meaningness to the character but also to still play her up as a heightened, extremely dumb, extremely self-obsessed character is a really tricky thing to do. It was thrilling and entertaining to read. It almost felt closer to reading an academic paper or study at times than a fictional mystery. My likes include animals, food, and nostalgia. But that aside, I'm pretty sure I know where I fall in terms of conclusions, but you could make the argument for it to go the other way. Jordan ends up pulling out the gun. Used to be everywhere you look, there's a heart, a hand to hold on to. Once things ramp back up toward the end, there's a brusque "conclusion" that didn't really give me the insight I wanted into what was going on all along.
