At the other end, there's a three mile piece of the Appalachian Trail that also coincides with these other two significant trails - between Weverton and Harper's Ferry, at Mile 60. C and o canal historical national park. The best times for hiking in Maryland are mid-April through mid-May (Memorial Day weekend is usually crowded) or late September through early November. The Harpers Ferry section of the Potomac Heritage Trail follows the C&O Canal Towpath. The towpath is entirely in the state of Maryland and follows the bank of the Potomac River.
