The period is set in the time of Caesar Augustus, the Roman Emperor who decreed that a census be taken and set in motion the event we now celebrate as Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. A Walk Through Bethlehem is our annual Christmas event where we transport you back in time to ancient Bethlehem at the time of Jesus birth. Journey to Bethlehem has been a wonderful Christmas experience for our St. Charles community for 26 years! In 2000, because of the COVID pandemic, we did not have Bethlehem Walk, and this saddened a lot of people who made this an annual part of their Christmas season. "A Walk Through Bethlehem" is a 40 minute interactive outdoor family experience that follows the footsteps of Mary and Joseph as they made their way to Bethlehem to be inscribed in the census and pay their taxes. You'll be immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of an ancient city, eventually making your way to the same discovery the shepherds made that first Christmas night—Jesus, the Savior, lying in a manger.
The city of Bethlehem will once again be brought to life at this nostalgic, free community event that has brought Christmas joy to countless families since it first began in 1986.
