Many of the criticisms leveled at Laugier are legitimate. Apart from classical horror movies, these are pretty good too. It is also a very intelligent and well-crafted film that will keep you guessing until the very end. Baskin is a Turkish film that follows a group of police officers who respond to a call in the middle of the night.
I Stand Alone is a French film that follows the downward spiral of a butcher. The story follows a small town overrun by a group of aliens that turn the residents into zombies. Cast: Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Aaron Burns. It is also a brilliant satire of the media and our culture's obsession with violence. Mixing horror and suspense, this movie broke into the Hollywood sphere, winning a few awards. Cast: Monica Bellucci, Vincent Cassel, Albert Dupontel. You can find these films on some of the leading streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. Following its initial release, a number of critics signaled out Laugier's latest effort. Director: Scott Schirmer. As I was watching, I started thinking that maybe this would be an interesting discussion of PTSD and how horror and violence can affect victims, years later.
