The slow build between two women (who I won't reveal because spoilers! We follow Zachary as he finds a book that seems to have him in it, trying to work out why, Zachary is launched into a world he could never have even dreamed of. Sometimes the story goes day by day, others it uses a time jump. Its a hefty tome, but its worth it. The BookTok girlies will come for me if I don't mention this book, since it's the go-to sapphic fantasy recommendation. Recently added to Netflix as a Donghua called Heaven's Officials Blessing – this book throws you into the world of Gods and ghosts. What If It's Us, by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera is a cute coming of age story featuring m/m protagonists. This book has it all, and does everything so well. They have also realised that many within the court don't care what Sabran does in her private time but I was a little disappointed that Loth hasn't got a love interest at all yet considering that LGBT relationship are very common in this world, Sabran and Ead but also Jannart and Niclays are just some example featured within the novel but there is still time as we are still over 200 pages away from the conclusion of the novel. We are now over a quarter of the way through Priory as I believe the main cast is complete with Ead, Sabran, Tane, Niclays and Loth spread out over the entire world and following different paths which I believe might converge at some point. That being said, I absolutely love long books and spectacular world building and Samantha didn't disappoint. Sabran is headstrong and ruthless, but also vulnerable and caring. I read this book in two days (it was the pandemic, I needed escapism) and the world pulled me in. I don't want to give much away because if I say too much then you wont get to explore it and interpret it yourself. Early on she breaks the rules and it causes a huge domino effect not just in her life, but another interesting PoV Niclays Roos who was banished from the west and in a controlled settlement in the east. Each character is complex, but it's the women that leave the most lasting impact. I emphasize the world because it is massive, and (don't hate me) I can make comparisons to Tolkien's style of world-building. The story is rich and complex.
