When we talk of being baptised into Christ, it is here at the Cross, at the point of His death that we are spiritually immersed into Christ. The first thing to remember is this: forgiveness and deliverance from condemnation and death is never an end in and of themselves, and should never be considered to be that. One which, though we hold lightly, we do so preciously because it reveals such a glorious revelation of our Fathers intentionality towards us as His children, and our Saviours deep love for us as His Bride. The image conveyed is that Christ's Bride will have unsurpassed beauty. The trouble arises from the fact that some persist in regarding sanctification as something that we decided to do for ourselves. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. I Peter 2:9-10 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood [a kingdom of priests], a holy nation [set apart], His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. Consider the stacks of wedding books on store shelves [1, 350 at last count, according to Books in Print], the growing number of wedding workout videos and the ever-expanding list of bridal reality shows on TV: "Bridezillas, " "Platinum Weddings, " "Rich Bride, Poor Bride, " "Buff Brides, " "Bulging Brides" and "My Big Fat Fabulous Wedding, " to name just a few. In other words, God has set apart Christians for Himself. So we have to be very careful what we do in the world. It was not uncommon for a bride and groom to have never seen each other before the actual wedding day. For the believer in Christ the greatest day of our lives will be when we go home to be with Christ. This is a definite indication that God is working with His children.
