Busted the carrier ring off, pushed out the pin from the diff, and finally had access to push instead of pull. Does the cv axle have a lock ring on it? I have attached a picture of what happened to the new CV joint…the differential end got pretty screwed up, and I couldn't even get it to go back in. I've tried turning both the axle and the diff to see if it had to be realigned and it didn't help. V70R drivetrain clanking noise - front CV axles and LCA bushings already replaced. The drive shaft and other side will rotate a well but if the splines line up it will slide back in. In several cases I've run across in which a half shaft job or brake job was performed, the nuts not tightened properly, and shortly thereafter the halfshaft splines would strip the splines out of the wheel hub. Welcome to Tacoma World! The RH ones should go all the way through the angle gear an slip into the transmission with only a twist to get splines aligned. Rear axle won't go back into diff. I'm sure once you deburr with a Dremel you can get the snap ring to behave. Many moments of serious doubt and wanting to throw up have come and gone. Neither axle maybe engaged all the way in the spine, but only one has slipped out. I now see the shorter driver's side CV Axle/shaft has the clip on he end so I need to lube and center it but the passenger side cv Axle/shaft doesn't.
