I really do believe that it was a Godsend for our family! And you read more than one book at a time, so it may get hard to follow the storyline on each one. I personally do not think MFW is "light" or "easy" but rather I would describe MFW as: steeped in God's Word, rich, challenging, lots of great reading, fun, easy to do hands-on projects that truly enrich learning, no twaddle, good, sound science with manageble #/type of experiments... MFW incorporates all these too, but with less packed into a day.
I could never deal with all that now. Both dc love to be read aloud to and will read on their own when it is scheduled into their days but neither one will pick up a book to read on their own initiative. The Sonlight curriculum comes with the History/Bible and Literature in one big binder, but with twins I needed to divide them so it was easier to share.
