This was a YA mystery story featuring a missing uncle and some art forgeries. The Last of August is available now. They set out to solve the puzzle along with breaking up an art forgery ring. I think I spent over half the book with a dumbass look on my face trying to understand what the hell was going on. It's actually worked out really well most of the time. "Happy New Year, Jamie. "
Cavallaro continues to dazzle with prose that's filled with twists and turns, outsmarting the reader at every opportunity. I hate it because it makes me want to get up and do something useful, like lying there trying to go back to sleep and being unable to is such a huge waste of time. A story you reminded each other of when you needed to feel understood. Overall, this book was a cute YA mystery. The relationship between the two main characters is problematic and sometimes even toxic in a way that puts me off sometimes. The Last of August: Charlotte Holmes, Book 2 Book Review. Aside from there being a whole new case to solve and the increase in romance potential between the two protagonists (who are arguably their own and each other's antagonists), it doesn't differ too much from A Study in Charlotte. Not one of these characters or situations or families felt like something I could hold onto. The side characters really don't come up in this novel as much as expected. I can't even talk about this leave me alone bye. I definitely can understand why people would be disappointed in this installment. There had to be an arc there, some kind of story that the two of you were telling just by being together. I didn't write it, ya know?? The flow is actually okay in this one. The incident is never shown, but it's clear that she's struggling to process the trauma. Jamie's narration is always a delight to read, but I especially love the few chapters we get from Charlotte's weirdly amusing point of view. The last of august ending explained for dummies. Watson and Holmes start out in Sussex before heading to Berlin and then, (be still my heart) Prague. Hines took Joe without Mrs. By the end of august. The progression between Charlotte & Jamie is moving at a good speed and I am interested to see what the next book entails for them. I long for the stories of each family member, who seem fascinating and complex all on their own. Every argument in this book seemed to be for the express purpose of just hurting the other person and it wasn't fair to either of them. Plus, Charlotte was (of course) also withholding information from Jamie, so he seemed to spend most of the book moping around feeling uncertain and unnecessary. Overall I'm excited for the next novel because I actually read the synopsis and actually am interested- but other than that this was a dud for me. Jamie and Charlotte.
