This is an a great bag. If you just need to make the most of your body heat on a chilly night, we have plenty of down insulation bags for the average camper. Help me identify this old North Face sleeping bag. The North Face Inferno -40F/-40C sleeping bag is a good example of a sleeping bag for winter nights. Construction quality is good for an import and the zipper works well. I think it is advertised as a 9x 17 stuff sack. I don't know what the naysayers problem is, but I was in my boxers, T-shirt and socks. Total Weight||2 lb 10 oz / 1182 g||2 lb 12 oz / 1258 g|. I am 6' 2", 210 lbs. Notice all the complainers seem to not know the correct use of a 3-season sleeping bag. Great piece of gear! The extra weight is more than compensated for by the quality of sleep I now get. Whether zippers are prefabricated or cut from fabric.

After reading Rich's review I thought about my North Face Chamois down bag I received as a Xmas present in 1972. They stay up to 15 years before they start to degrade. Newer listings show Climashield. The included stuff sack is one of the best features of this bag. So the rating is right on as I was cold at 15 and warm at 25.

Since synthetics don't absorb moisture to a great degree, I've had no problem with it. With care, it should provide many seasons of use. I know I'm pushing the limits of this bag on some nights, but based of my sleeping temp, the conditions I camp, I would say this bag is not comfortable for me at 20-25 degrees in just a base layer on a pad. I can't remember what the fill is right now but these were last years models and I think they have a different fill now. Wost bag I ever owned. First time I used it was on a 6-day trip through the Bailey range in ONP in early fall. The quality of materials used in this bag is quite impressive for the price you pay for it.

Add a fleece liner to it, and I can even pull off spring use (Maine/Quebec Canoe Guide). Zipper constantly jams. Not as warm as advertized. The bag is tighter than my old 35 degree bag, but it rolls with me so that is not a problem. At 35°, with a base layer shirt and pants and socks, I felt a bit of a chill and was brought slightly out of my comfort level.

It is compressible, and comfortable/roomy interior, with a nice fleece inner collar and a good functional cord system. These bags pack well, especially when placed in compression stuff bags. To my surprise they replaced the bag with a brand new Superlight at no charge (other than the cleaning cost of the old bag) something about the bag has a lifetime warranty. I was cold at 35 degrees. I really like this bag. Sleeping bags that are not frequently cleaned become much faster. All in all, though, a very good performer for most weather. There are lighter warmer and lower priced bags from other reputable companies that will last longer than this bag. Synthetics are simply inferior in packability compared to down, but for me I'd rather know that I'll be warm despite damp conditions and IMO this bag is pretty packable for a synth. Sleeping bag ratings are relative to the individual, humidity, sleep patterns, warm/cold sleepers, and many other factors.
Also, I've had mine for a number of years and it has proven to be far more durable than any synthetic bags I have owned as far as loft retention goes. Comfortable and roomy even with my 6'4" frame. The 20F rating is a lie, I'd rate this bag at twice that. Overall I think it's a great bag for the price and it will remain a staple in my gear for excursions that could be moist or chilly. Update: As is often fairly common for synthetic bags, repeated stuffing lead to loss of loft. My wife and I each bought one of these bags on sale out of Campmor. A compression sack gives bags like the Lynx the smallest packed specs we can manage. How cold will it get at night where you want to go camping?
Very versatile as a blanket or bundled up closed up. Yes, old sleeping bags are still good. I should have realized this in the store but was inexperienced in choosing a bag. Without a pad, it's simply not suitable for temps below freezing, in my opinion. When you uncompress it, it will have lost its loft. I would not put anything hard in there lest it poke me while sleeping, and I would not put anything delicate there because I would smash it while sleeping. Unfortunately after about a year, my zipper began snagging on my bag. I've used this bag a lot, though the coldest I've had this bag to was the mid-thirties, moderate humidity, and inside a tent.

I recently slept in it during a 25-degree night, and was very cold. Weight: 2 lbs 12 oz. At just shy of three and a half pounds, I wouldn't call this a Superlight. What I really want to know is if the bag will zip into a male model? I was comfortable all night, only felt slightly cold when I woke around 4am. Polyester, I wonder if that is Polarguard? I am comfortable in just boxers and a tee even at 35 deg F. Not ultralight, but it definitely is ultraplush.
