I recorded this beside a spring in a small meadow along the Upper McCloud River on a beautiful partly cloudy spring morning in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Siskiyou County, California. Though it is called a lake on the map, it is really a small group of ponds and vernal pools just inside the edge of a lava flow which is part of a very large network of lava flows that stretches over 20 miles down the south flank of the Medicine Lake Volcano, a massive shield volcano.
