For the 2020-2021 school year, we chose to buy My Father's World homeschool curriculum as our spine. It was repetitive and it didn't seem like he was retaining much. They read their readers. I looked at Sonlight and bought quite a few of the Kindergarten books. I haven't used SL, but we didn't have time for anymore reading then we had in MFW!
For about two years during the pandemic they had also removed the ability to order a la carte, which was extremely frustrating when I would just need one or two books from MFW, but I just checked and they finally brought it back. Looking at My Father's World, I noticed that the younger levels had math and language arts included. I was completely new to the homeschool world, and a boxed curriculum seemed the least scary to me. I think MFW does a good job of presenting just Bible & leaving the interpretation up to the parents, so it's easy to use by folks of any doctrine. There is even a hymn study scheduled for a later year. I often (still) purchase books from them.
Well, with MFW you get a real math and real phonics programs, and language arts that's going to need pencil/paper as well as narration. Homeschool: My Father's World vs. Sonlight. MFW felt disjointed and I didn't care for the fact I had to keep flipping back to the calendar to make sure I didn't miss anything. My Father's World still includes read-aloud stories, but there are less of them. It only increases from there. I never hear that about SL and that is the first thing that turns me away. I love how easy it is to prepare--how the TM is set up, and for the weekly recommendations of books for the "book-basket"--listed in the back of the TM.
We also did SL LA K, Science K, and parts of Science 1. This is a fabulous support and provides many ideas. For example, making a pot from Cornstarch & flour or drawing an ancient map. I do understand that the Bible, Science and actual read-alouds are read together. Some of the books have become ultimate favorites that I now read to all of my children as they get older such as My Father's Dragon, but I wasn't a huge fan of quite a few of them. I am an ENFP homeschooling mom, which means I need structure or I get distracted very easily. I had that happen in volume 3 a lot. Is MFW on social media? Not curriculum, but tells you how to incorporate these subjects into everyday life. My oldest liked the way the high school program looked, and easily chose his program.

I'd probably use sonlight and just skip some of the stuff i saw as overload because #1 i like the materials they select and #2 they are more orthodox christian friendly.
As I looked into it further, it included everything that I wanted but without me having to implement it later. As a curriculum it didn't work for us. People desire what they see for sale. And then there was the faith factor, thee most important reason I'm homeschooling. It's been frustrating and overwhelming for me to try to implement this year, but I had a new colicky baby and a very VERY busy toddler.
