Beautiful surface on this one. Marty is a great talent and if you have ever tried to get any decoys at a show by Marty you know he sells out fast and keeps a backlog for his fine work. Signed and dated 2000 on underside. Great looking classic Ward Mallard decoy bookends here, very clean and nicely done style for that era and the condition is very excellent plus for the collector. Both have glass eyes very clean with no cracks. His paint is unmatched by very few. Has makers stencil on bottom. Tyler made a great looking decoy & has become well known as a great Folk artist thanks to Henry Stansbury's outstanding book on Lloyd Tyler's decoys & artwork. Stained wood color can vary but generally about 3 different depths of color. Has a crack in back from when made that Jester filled with a epoxy then painted but it lost paint over that area in a thin line (could be hidden but I prefer original). Excellent and nearly mint all original.
Nice lifelike colors and very detailed carving with a very nicely done posture with lots of nice detail including the drop down neck feathers. Measures approx 15 1/2. Signed and branded, and dated May 2019. Hancock was a neat guy with a great history, lots written on him is available in most all decoy books about historic Virginia carvers. Featuring interviews with Allen Horal, Dick LaFountain, Preston Raynor, John Verbeke and Schuyler Watts. Paint & condition with some honest age & fishing wear but overall excellent surface and paint style on this beauty. Perfect glass eyes with nice detailed painting that gives the look of deep layers of feathers. Excellent stylish form and painting brushwork with tight scratch painting and really displays excellent. Signed in marker and under paint and stamped weight. I dont know Mr Raymond but he does nice work and when I googled him found examples done in several of the classic New England styles. Handchopped body that measures. Glass eyes with no cracks. Shows moderate wear with some thin drying cracks along body with a couple of shot marks and a couple dents as seen in top pic. Bay Pintail hunting decoy for any collector looking to add a classic Rock Hall. This bird has never been rigged. No neck crack but does have slight lift of head from body and very old drying crack in bottom but all are very much stable and secure. Measures approx 37 inches long with carved eye and long dorsal fin. Darkfeather is part native American from the Blackfoot Tribe.

Both hard stamped 72/75 and are matched set of 75 Hooded Merganser pairs Bill made. Solid carved body measures approx 10 1/4 inches long with a nicely done 3 inch tall roothead carving with neat slightly turned head and tiny upturned bill. Signed with the maker's... [more like this]. Overall it is excellent plus. Nice detail gives it a great looking head with raised crossed wingtips. Beautiful deep color surface on this beauty. And line tie removed but drake has all.
I have no idea why someone who makes a bird this cool wouldnt sign it unless trying to sell as a 100 year old bird?. He started making decoys in the 50's and they were well thought out and different in many ways then what most others were doing. Retains original staple line ties in front and back to be used in string line set so it was never weighted. This is a really nice pair. Original line tie and original weight. Never been waxed and very nice dry surface. Measures approx 16 1/2 inches long with hissing head. Paint is very strong, clean and dry. His work and that of Gus Wilson rank as the best in Maine and some of the best in that part of the country.
