Are you having a hard time getting the circlips on the end of the CV axle to seat, or is it another problem. Cv axle going bad. Year and Model: 2004 & 2016 XC90. When you tried to put the trans in "P" and you heard the grinding, that was the output shafts of the trans still turning because there was nothing stopping it meaning that the cv joint/s have come off the splines of the output shaft/s. The shaft measures the same as the original and the spline count is correct.

2013 Ford Focus St3. Anybody know if the circlips are available by themselves? Sometimes the clips can prevent the shaft from being pushed into the transmission completely. What I ended up doing was taking the circlip and sanding approx 1/3 of its thickness off, gently reinstalling it from the end of the shaft and taped the axle into place.

Slides in and out like butter! My problem is if I can't get the axle back in now, even after I do the entire service I'm still going to have the same problem. Let go of the ebrake so you can rotate the axle. After trying for a few more minutes, I tried to put the axle back in to see how hard that part was going to be. My one concern is for the bearing just inside the diff.
Happened to a friend of mine in a U-turn. I personally like the larger lock rings on the reman axles, you just gotta hit them in harder, but they stay in place a lot better. If you drop the differential, the axles will lower and pull out of the diff. It looks like a tow to a mechanic is in order. Left side as mentioned above but you usually have to get it spline aligned and then pop it inward. Hopefully the splines in the gears are not stripped. Axle won't pop back in. Anyway, thank you all! I believe it's an R160. All the power goes the wheel that spins, or in this case slips. I could see it plausibly disengaging from the spines... gonna rework the clip so it's more round before inserting. The added stress can damage the seals and possibly the inboard joint.

The snap ring gives resistance and has to be compressed to go in so some effort has to be used. Luckily all the sparks were directed at the exhaust and heat shields on the car. I crouched by the wheel well and it slid in smooth as butter from that angle. The axle shaft nuts were tightened very tight I hope?
