Constant twists and turns in a mystery plot can often feel like the author is being confusing just for the sake of it, but with the plot of Vow of Thieves, stuff may surprise you, but it doesn't feel unearned. The first is oranges. The ending of Dance of Thieves gave us a little glimpse of what was in store, but trust me when I say that you are not ready for what is to come. I am very glad the next book is out, because THAT cliffhanger?!! There are a lot of consequences as a result of them being together, because Kazi has a duty to the Queen and Jase to his family. It was just there and bad. Dance of Thieves, however, never really wants to take a hard look at the choices its characters make.

Dance of Thieves finds a good balance between plot and romance, but definitely expect the scales to be tipped towards the romance. There were so many pieces of the story shifting, coming together, and diverging like a well-oiled machine. Together, they continue to play a cat and mouse game of false moves and motives in order to fulfill their own secret missions while trying to stop themselves from falling for each other. Kazi goes to the Hell's Mouth, which is controlled by the Ballenger family, to hunt one of the masterminds of TRC's big plot, but what happens after spirals far beyond the reaches of Lia's story. Fake dating, no strings attached relationships, enemies to lovers, deciding between duty/family and love, spying, found family… honestly what trope doesn't this book have? It takes YEARS to hone your craft, and that is the joy, in watching your writing tool chest grow.
There are ongoing, possibly rogue, threats to their home, city, and trade arena. While here I struggled, I loved being back in the world and it was nice seeing glimpses of the old characters, particularly Lia.
