I realize the early specs carry forward, unless revised. 105 inch pounds is less than 9 foot pounds, so yes that should be correct if it came out of the manual. In short, you won't find a professional mechanic grabbing his torque wrench of any size to put on a component like a water pump. Location: SINGAPORE. The only way to do that without stripping threads or breaking bolts is with a torque wrench. The bolts are different sizes but the larger ones are almost 5/16" and 7 ft/lbs sounds to light. Re: 351 water pump bolt torque. I had exactly the same situation as you but for the very early 18g 3 main bearing engine. You need to understand how the shop manual works. I think the 25 is excessive, but I have not put 1 in a vice to see if it will yield it. The old bolts had lock washers on them and the new bolts don't. If so, what color is it I use? How can you put 17 to 18 ft lbs on 10 mm small bolts....

I really don't remember if I torqued them or just guessed at it. Those bolts are tiny. I just had this happen today. I'd go 1/4-28 rather than 1/4-20. I chickened out and stopped at 20. I ordered a pump for the 18V, late 70's engine, even though it's in a 68 GT. Aficionados know better. I did some googling and found values between 14 & 19, depending on wet vs dry and stress level, etc. Thanks for the kind words.
I didn't find it in my Bentley manual. Can anyone advise me on torqueing the bolts? I start comparing and the nose/snout of the new one is almost exactly 1" shorter than the one that was on. In the end, we all have to learn, and I learn something new most days myself. Recommend a sealant I could use on the gasket, bolts? Probably going to be about 15 lb-ft. Good luck, Roger.
All that is mentioned is using loctite- NO torque value.. Also, I bought new bolts from OPG. Or mechanic tight if you know what that is from experience.
