Riley: Bonjour, Lucas. When Lucas saw Riley and Maya in detention, he looked as if relieved and happy that Riley didn't want him to be alone with Missy. In Riley's dream her and Lucas almost kiss. Lucas then easily breaks the "barrier" that Riley and Maya put up in order to keep him out. Lucas and Riley glanced at each other as Farkle went inside. Zay said Lucas also called Riley "The Pretty Brunette Who Never Gives Up On Anyone And No Sacrifice Is Too Big For Her Friends". These two moments make it clear about Lucas's strong feelings towards Riley and shows that he does in fact still has strong feelings for Riley. She then leans her head on Lucas's back and wraps her arms around his waist. Riley: When are you going to tell me what you did? Lucas tells Riley he really likes her. Riley wipes the paint off of Lucas's face. Riley's notebook has the words Riley and Lucas forever on the front on the back it says Riley and Lucas we're just friends, showing she doesn't want to be "just friends. I lost my contact lense!
Lucas is originally a country boy, while Riley is a city girl. Riley look a bit shy and nervous that Lucas was in her room. Riley says she's glad she fell into Lucas's lap while he agrees and smiles at her. Lucas: You're better than that. Her feelings for him continue to remain the same throughout subsequent episodes (although some episodes focus less on their relationship than others). Lucas says he's like Riley since their both not succeeding as much as they had hoped in High School. They sat next to each other on the subway.
In Girl Meets Texas (Part 2) he asks Riley at the campfire "what are we" after she says she told what they were he says "what if that's not what i think we are". Riley: I've felt the same way about you ever since I fell into your lap on the subway. Riley kisses Lucas, making it the first time the two of them kiss each other and the first time she initiates a kiss. Lucas watches amused as Riley argues with her dad. Riley takes Lucas's side and calls Maya short. Riley and Lucas didn't want to play the Couples Game at first, but after Charlie challenges Lucas to play, he accepts. Lucas doesn't like the new Riley and her dark personality. Lucas smiled to himself when Riley wrapped her arms around his waist. The writers said, "Because innocence attracts and when innocence attracts then why happens? Lucas explains that he heard everything and that he thinks Farkle stole his moment twice, which indicates that he likely returns Riley's feelings.
Lucas smiled at Farkle's summary of his and Riley's incident. Riley wanted Lucas to trust her. Riley wonders 5-10 months in advance if Lucas will ask her to the Semi-Formal. Riley asks Lucas by the end of the episode, "What am I to you? Riley thought it was sweet that Lucas still misses his friends back home. Riley told Maya, "relationships are supposed to be about two people who make the choice to come together by themselves, " and Lucas added, "of their own free will, at the right point of time. And I want to know now. " Lucas defended Riley and Maya against Billy. Both Riley and Lucas are concerned for Maya. Everyone was rooting for Lucas and Riley to be together. He prefers Riley as herself.
Lucas smiles back at her. Lucas (along with Farkle) smiles at Riley after she says she'll become a bunny farmer. Cheerleading means true love). That's a big deal for me. Peyton Meyer said in an interview that he and Riley have a special connection. Riley says that she likes Lucas cause he says please and thank you after Maya tells her she doesn't know what she likes anymore. They told each other they are good dancers. Hypercompetent Sidekick: He can make coffee, play chess (though badly), pick locks and bite off bindings. Frame-Up: The gang manages to pin their attack on Los Palitos on Luke by having Sam claim he recognizes Luke as a member of the gang, and Luke only narrowly avoids being hanged by promising to bring the real criminals back to the town. Sore Loser: To say that they take losing contests to the other family during the feast organised by Lucky Luke not very well would be a huge understatement.
Dirty Coward: Steve The Wishy-Washy, who is stated to have switched sides between the Union and the Confederacy dozens of times over the course of the war, depending on who was winning. The Dragon: Gates, Smith's former cook and currently second-in-command, who's just as delusional as his boss is. Friendly Enemy: With Lucky Luke, though Joe wouldn't agree. Card Sharp: While Double-Six can't be trusted to play a game of solitaire by himself, The Boss is a card cheat through and through, to the point that when Luke shakes him upside-down to disarm him, his jacket turns out to be full of ace cards. Here, at the end of the album, he's said to have been hanged with his brothers — though this is Retconned in the later album The Dalton Uncles, where Emmet's fate is changed to be more in line with his historical counterpart. Stiff Upper Lip: To the point that even being shot in the arm doesn't faze him. He wanted out but the bridge he was crossing blew up due to one of the families' antics. They end up becoming great riders, deadly shooters and very competent in general apart from their stupidity which unfortunately for them doesn't change and remains their weak point which Lucky uses to defeat them.
He still displays shades of this occasionally in later books, but for the most part, he is essentially portrayed as just the stupidest. FaceHeel Turn: His goals were noble at the start, but spending enough time around the Daltons makes Hiimbergeist decide that the outlaw life is far more exciting than his chosen profession and decides to become a criminal himself. The Casanova: Downplayed for the most part, and of course nothing is ever shown that wouldn't be G-rated — but it's clear that where Lucky Luke is a Celibate Hero, Jolly Jumper most definitely is not. Running Gag: During every confrontation Luke forces him to twirl his gun around his finger, in the end making his trigger finger too swollen to actually operate his gun. A diminutive card cheat and his dim-witted henchman from Poker Gulch, The Boss and Double-Six realize that the newly invented "one-armed bandit" (aka the slot machine), a creation by the gadget-obsessed Caille brothers, will put the livelihoods of crooked gamblers like themselves in jeopardy, since machines can't be hustled, and set out to destroy the machine by any means necessary. The Dreaded: He is Lucky Luke, THE Lucky Luke. Other recurring antagonists. And while this finish may be a step toward addressing that issue, it came off poorly in the moment.
The gang ends up on Luke's radar after they plunder the small town of Los Palitos and frame him for their crimes. Trigger-Happy: His answer for the slightest provocation is to shoot it. It would be several years before the law caught up with him. Adaptational Badass: Like a lot of legends from the Old West, the Daltons' reputation was heavily embellished over the years, while contemporary records showed them to be fairly incompetent, albeit not to the extent of their fictional cousins.
