Overall this was such a surprising read. The flow of the writing was perfect and the plot was fun and interesting. I was entertained for the most part, although I did find it too short. I so loved how their relationship was built on a genuine search to try and understand the other person as they are. But she is smart and cunning and loves fashion and is a strong female character. The Good: 1) I loved this book. I'm okay with holding off physical contact for tension, but only if there is tension and these two just were so good at acting like they didn't care about each other that it kind of felt like they really didn't until they finally started acting like they did. This book was described by the author as her "Slytherin Romance" book and those words made it automatically shoot to the very top of my TBR pile. The pitch for this book is a Slytherin-romance, and that's spot-on in my opinion! The Shadows Between Us takes place mostly in the Shadow King's castle and court. The kingdom and castle that is the background of this novel are such a fantastic setting that made me swoon. It felt very slow to build and it took a little longer for me to get into the story for that reason. I get it in fantasy sometimes but not enough, the reveal that someone did something "bad" and other characters shrug like "yeah sometimes you gotta". I think the subplot could have been done well if somehow interwoven into the other plot points, while also adding substance and giving the audience more of a view of the kingdom (not just court). They have a enemies to lovers relationship and that bad girl and bad boy trope.
There was never a dull moment and I couldn't put it down. She has pretty devious intentions at the start, but I loved the friendship she forms with Kallias and how she starts to see things are not how she originally thought. One of my favourites.
