2 high, 4 high and neutral seem to work correctly in their respective positions as well. My 92 did the same think and a ford mechanic told me to remove the rubber boot from around the shifter and pour a quart of 30wt over it and thats what i did and used it another 6 years trouble free....... This can include attempting to shift into 4WD Low when not in neutral, or failing to depress the brake pedal when the button is pressed (at least on some models). My 2002 Ford Explorer only has 4x4 auto, 4x4 high and 4 x4 low. For routine troubleshooting I always unplug the battery and reattach to reset my, the dashboard light showed 4x4 low, even though my switch was in 2H! The transfer case could be shifted on the fly in neutral or with clutch depressed. While it is sometimes possible to shift into 4-low from a standstill position, it is not recommended as the gear teeth may not line up correctly. 9L IDI diesel ZF5+DNE2. Christopher - Good news and bad news. So it can switch its gears, not park! You might just consider us the 4WD or AWD of the car leasing world because nothing stops us from helping you get in the driver's seat. It's basically just a metal plate that is bolted to the transmission with a groove in it, and a tab on the shifter follows the groove. Think of 4lo vs. 4hi as the difference between gears on a 10-speed mountain bike. Drove in reverse for a bit, then stopped and put it in neutral and that fixed it. Mine keeps jumping into it going down the road and now it's stuck every time I put it in drive and it puts the trackscontrol off. I'm not sure what is going on, your truck must be in neutral 2 times, one on your transfer case and the other on transmission. If his doesn't work, put it into 4H drive it back a few feet, stop put transmission into neutral and then try shifting it again.

Additionally, it is important to note that 4-low should never be engaged during any normal pavement driving, as this can cause heat build up and potentially damage the transfer case. And I hate to side-track this discussion, but while we are on it... I believe this link is what you may want to look at: There is a good chance you have a worn shifter bushing in the case, or at least that is an easy and relatively inexpensive place to start on any of these Suzukis that have sloppy or bound up shifter issues. Found out the battery light was on. It seems like in the past (before a knob on the dash became the "normal" shifter) I had to run the hubs unlocked if I wanted to use 2 low. I think this must be some sort of electrical or vacuum issue - I'm guessing related to some sort of switch that tells the system I'm in neutral and stopped. Thanks a lot it worked on my 2003 and saved my ass from getting chewed out by my dad. Our signs are everywhere.
The only exception is getting to 4L. The thing that worked for me was i drove in 4x4 low because it was stuck in that gear. My car has an automatic transmission. Disconnecting the battery was a complete success. Jim - Yes, you did qualify it. Just to let you know I tried the backup thing you talked about here and it came out of 2 wheel low perfectly! So what happens when you select any of those options?
