Going into All the Light We Cannot See, I had heard nothing but great things about it. Since that failed I will try my luck explaining what this novel did or didn't do for me. You get terribly angry and shocked, and this is achieved through the author's writing, his excellent prose. Secondly, be aware when you choose this book that the book is not only about WW2 but also a diamond that some of the characters, quite a few in fact, believe has magical powers. In fact, my first attempt to read it last year ended with me putting it aside and going to find something easier, lighter and less descriptive to read. I was invited into the pages and could not only imagine the atmosphere, but all of my senses were collectively enticed from the very first page until the last. With them they carry what might be the museum's most valuable and dangerous jewel. Werner and Jutta are mesmerized by a French radio broadcast, a respite from the anti-Semitic propaganda the government is broadcasting. She and Etienne use his contraband radio to broadcast information to the Allies. Read by Zach Appelman - it was alright. There were so many different aspects of the book that are lived out in separate moments and in different countries that find a way to unite in the end.
